Helvetica was designed in 1957 by Eduard Hoffmann and Max Miedinger at the Haas type foundry in Switzerland. Their aim was to create a plain typeface that was clear, easilly readable, and could be used in signage. Various variations have been created by others over the years such as Monotypes Ariel and Microsoft's MS Sans Serif. The font is a Sans Serif font.
