Adana printing presses were manufactured in England from 1922 to 1999. The printing presses were mainly aimed at non-commercial uses and were priced in that way. Some semi-automated presses were created for the commercial market. Adana stood for quality and affordability which saw them through tough times and also placed them above American competitors.
The company was founded in 1922 by Donald Aspinall and was original named "The Adana Agency". Frederick Ayers purchased the firms assets in 1940 and renamed the company in 1946 renamed the company to Adana (Printing Machines) limited.
During the 1980's printing moved more towards lithography printing rather than letterpress. Letterpress being made up from lead type, lithography using photography methods and printing plates. With the advent of home computing and printers, many moved away from "old fashioned" methods and used new technologies to produce material.
Adana always had a policy of supplying parts for their machines. They were also very well built meaning that a large number of models were available for the second hand market.
Caslon Limited purchased the assets in 1990 and continued to produce small numbers of machines till 1999.
Today Caslon still refurbish Adana presses in small numbers.
